Overview

This new adventure has been designed for those travelers who do not have much time for travelling in Peru. During this journey, you will visit 3 regions of Peru: Arequipa guarded by not one but three dramatic – volcanoes, the city enjoys a resplendent, if seismically precarious setting. Puno: has a regal plaza, concrete block buildings and crumbling bricks that blend into the hills, it has its share of both grit and cheer and serves as the jumping-off point for Lake Titicaca. Then you will follow the famous Inca Trail which will lead you to visit the inspiring Inca city of Machu Picchu the long-anticipated highpoint of your trip. In a spectacular location, it’s the best-known archaeological site on the continent and one of the Seven Wonders of the World: MACHU PICCHU. Returning to Cusco.

Itinerary

DAY 1: AREQUIPA – CHIVAY

We pick you up early morning from your Hotel and travel from Arequipa (2327mts/7747ft)  north-west direction, behind snow-covered Chachani. We will see wild vicuñas, alpacas & llamas in the Pampa Cañahuas National Reserve, some birds like flamingos, ibis, Andean geese, ducks, Andean eagles “Kara Kara” while enjoying a view point of the Volcanoes and snow covered mountains in Patapampa (4,800mts/15,977ft). Then arrive in Chivay (3600mts/11,977ft) capital of the valley. there is an optional visit to the hot springs & pools in La Calera (40ºC) in the afternoon.

DAY 2: CHIVAY – CRUZ DEL CONDOR – AREQUIPA

After an early breakfast at 6 am, we leave for a full day excursion to the left shore of the canyon. We can see beautiful typical towns, colonial churches and people with typical needlework dresses. We can also admire hundreds of incredible pre-Inca terraces which are still in use today producing andean crops like corn, quinua, kiwicha and more. After a 2hours driving we arrive at the most visited point: “the Cross of the Condor”. There we can enjoy the depth of the canyon and flight of the Condors. After we have lunch, we return to Arequipa arriving around 5 pm.

DAY 3: AREQUIPA – JULIACA – PUNO

we take our bus early in the morning (Cruz del Sur) to Puno (3850mts/12,827ft), arriving around 1 pm. On the way you will enjoy all the amazing views of snow-capped Mountains, stunning lakes, Llamas, Alpacas and much more. After your lunch, you will have plenty of free time to enjoy Puno.

DAY 4: PUNO – UROS ISLANDS – AMANTANI ISLAND

After having breakfast in your hotel, the tour leader will pick you up to take you to the port. There you will embark the boat and drive for 30 minutes. There are nice views of the lake until arriving at the floating islands. You will be welcomed by the locals who will show you the island and the products they weave. Then a 3 hour boat ride to get to the Amantani island. By 2.30pm we arrive at our destination where our guide will introduce us to the local families who are going to share their houses with us. After lunch we will hike for one hour up the mountain called Pachataita (Mother Father) which is located at 4150m above sea level. There, you will see an amazing view of the sunset over the lake and a chance to relax and enjoy the fresh air. It is the best place to get pictures from all surrounding views of this blue sacred lake of the Incas. After the explanations from your guide, you will go back to your family homes to get your dinner and enjoy typical dances and local music.

DAY 5: AMANTANI ISLAND – TAQUILE ISLAND – PUNO

At 7am after your family breakfast, you will meet with the group and embark on a 2hour boat ride to Taquile Island. After an explanation from the guide about the way of life and culture of the inhabitants, you could make a few short treks around the island and finish the morning by a lunch taken in the cooperative restaurant. After, you might choose to visit the cooperative shop that sells woollen goods of very fine quality. Taquile Island is famous for its craft production, particularly for its beautiful textiles made by the men of the island. At 4 or 5pm you will return to Puno with a transfer to your hotel.

PS: We suggest that you bring some toys for the children on the islands or notebooks, pencils, pens, books, which can be easily purchased at the harbour before departing. They would really appreciate such a loving gesture from you.

DAY 6: PUNO –  LA RAYA – RAQCHI – ANDAHUAYLILLAS – CUSCO

We pick you up at your hotel at 6.30am to take you to the bus station (Inca Express or First Class ). Both companies provide royal class service with an english speaking tour guide and a waiter who is ready to assist you with hot and cold drinks on board. During the journey we will stop to visit Pucara and its museum where it is possible to see some pre-inca remains. The next visit is at La Raya, the border between Cusco and Puno, where the most traditional animals of Peru can be seen, such as llamas and alpacas. Then we stop at the Racchi Inca ruins which used to be an important religious center and a resting place for the travelers. After we will make a stop to admire the church of San Pedro which is considered the Sixtine Chapel of South America because of its amazing frescos. Finally by 5.30 pm we arrive in Cusco where our representative will pick you up to take you to your hotel.

DAY 7: INCA TRAIL: CUSCO – PISKACUCHO  – WAYLLABAMBA

We pick you up at 5am from your hotel and travel 2 hours by bus, passing the picturesque villages of Chinchero, Urubamab and Ollantaytambo,towards the 82 kilometer (start of the trail), with the opportunity to take breakfast on the way. Once there, we cross the bridge to initiate our trek along the left bank of the Urubamba river. The trail follows to the North-east of the Urubamba valley and after three hours we arrive at the first stunning Inca site of Llatallacta (2,650m/8,747ft). Afterwards we hike for 30 minutes to Tarayocfor lunch. Then we follow the Kusichaca valley for two hours to reach our first camp at Wayllabamba (3,000m/9,900ft) where we will have a high tea, dinner and spend the night. During the tour we will be able to enjoy the spectacular views of the snow-capped mountains such a Veronica (5,860m/19,337ft), lush green valleys and myriad of flora and fauna.

DAY 8: WAYLLABAMBA – WARMIWAÑUSCA – PAQAYMAYU

Today is the toughest day on the trek . After a healthy breakfast, we start walking up a moderate hill for five hours through the cloud forest to reach the highest point of our trek, the Warmiwañusca pass (Dead Woman pass) located at 4,215m/13,907ft. From here we may enjoy the spectacular views of different micro climates, magnificent mountains, beautiful green valleys and myriad of flora and fauna. After time to enjoy this beautiful sight, we descend for two hours to our second camp at Paqaymayu (3,600m/11,877ft), where we have our lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and spend the night

DAY 9: PAQAYMAYU – CHAQ’ICOCHA – PHUYUPATAMAKA – WIÑAYWAYNA

This day is the longest day of our trek but interesting and the most beautiful. After we have a delicious breakfast we walk uphill for one hour to explore the archaeological site of Runcurakay (3,800m/12,540ft). Then we ascend to the Runcurakay pass (3,977m/13,127ft); from here we can enjoy the breath-taking views of the surrounding mountains and stunning lakes, and the beginning of he amazon jungle. then we descend for one hour to the next archaeological site of Sayacmarca (3,600m/11,877ft) and walk 30 more minutes to Chaquicocha for lunch. Afterwards we continue through an easy trail to the pass of Phuyupatamarka (3,650m/12,047ft), there we can admire the Mountain of Machu Pichu , the Urubamba canyon and surrounding mountain glaciers. Then we descend through the cloud forest for three hours, all downstairs, until the third campsite at Wiñaywayna (2,650m/8,747ft) where we spend the night

DAY 10: WIÑAYWAYNA – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO.

This day is the most exciting part of our trek. We wake up very early and have breakfast. Afterward we walk for more than one hour towards the Sun Gate (2,720m/8,977ft) from where we may enjoy the first panoramic view of Machu Picchu in all its brilliance and majestic monumentality. Then we descend for an hour towards the wonder of the world: the citadel of Machu Picchu (2400m/7,920ft). There we are provided for 2hours guided tour, visiting all the important places such as: the temples, sundials, sun temple, cemeteries, enclosure, urban and agricultural sector and much more. Then you will have plenty of time for further exploring, taking photos and eventually climbing the Huayna Picchu or Machu Pichu Mountain. Afterwards we head back to Aguas Calientes, have lunch and we later take our return Vistadome train 3:20pm from Aguas Calientes to Poroy station (Cusco) with private transport to Cusco, arriving at your hotel in the evening.

Day 11: DEPARTURE FROM CUSCO

After having breakfast at the hotel, enjoy your remaining time in Cusco city then in the late morning or afternoon we will drop off at the airport to take your plane back to Lima.
